CONNECTED PRACTICE GUIDELINES
Connected is a professional counselling service. I hold a Masters in Social Work degree, with a focus on aging and related issues.
Confidentiality
Connected is a confidential service. What you share is not shared with others. The exception to this is if there is identified risk of imminent self-harm or harm to others.
Issues Related to Technology
Connected uses an online platform. I have been highly selective in choosing a private and confidential video conferencing service that has an encrypted connection and is both PHIPA (Personal Health Information Protection Act) and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996) compliant.
It is important to be aware of the challenges that may arise in virtual counselling. For instance, technology may stop working, resulting in a dropped connection. In addition, because online counselling takes place outside of a private office, it is important for you to make sure you find a private area for our sessions.
Please note, I use email communication for administrative purposes only. That means that email exchanges should be limited to things like setting and changing appointments, billing matters, and other related issues. Please do not email about clinical matters because email is not a secure way to communicate. If you need to discuss a clinical matter, please feel free to email me to set up an appointment.
Parameters of Service
Connected is not a crisis service and appointments are made in advance. Connected operates Monday-Friday. I aim to respond to emails and voicemail messages within 24 hours.
